Marking the Establishment of CCB’s Core Trade Marks Intellectual Property Protection System

Recently, Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department granted CCB the exclusive right to use the eight trade marks including the bank’s logo, CCB, the combination of logo and CCB and the combination of logo and the bank’s English and Chinese names in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The successful register of CCB’s trade marks cuts the risk of hostile infringement.

The register gives CCB the right to use those trade marks in Hong Kong, laying down a solid legal foundation for it to exercise related rights in the SAR. It also enables CCB branches in Hong Kong (China Construction Bank (Asia) Limited, CCB International and its subsidiaries) to use the registered trade marks in Hong Kong legally, which will help improve the image of CCB, raise its value and increase investor confidence.

It is said that recently Korean Intellectual Property Office also granted CCB the exclusive right to use the trade marks composed of its name and logo on such services as finance, insurance, monetary affairs and property affairs.

Up to now CCB has obtained the exclusive right to use the trade marks of its name and logo in a number of countries and regions including the UK, Japan, Singapore and South Korea, marking that CCB has achieved fruitful results of overseas protection of core trade marks. The bank has initially built a core trade marks intellectual property right protection system covering trade mark application, trade mark right and interest monitoring and trade mark infringement countermeasures.
