Published time:2008-04-09

CCB cardholders are reminded to raise their awareness on safety card use so as to prevent criminals from stealing their money and infringing their interests through various pretexts.  They are asked to avoid the stealing of information from the magnetic stripe of their cards or the spying of their PIN by not being duped into revealing their account balance or consenting to requests for the use of their cards under the excuse of identification check, nor should they be convinced to make card enquiries at facilities designated by other people.

In order to raise the safety card use awareness of its customers, CCB has extensively publicised safety use of bank card to its cardholders through the internet, SMS and its customer service hotline 95533, etc.  In addition, its has included safety card use reminders in the account statements it is sending to the holders of its financial management cards and have printed leaflets on safety card use tips for customer browsing in its branches.  At the same time, its is asking account managers and lobby managers in all of its branches to intensify card safety usage education to its customers, while providing periodic training to these account managers and lobby managers so as to brief them on the latest trends of debit card crimes and urge them to provide more education and guidance to their customers.  All tiers of branches and sub-branches are also reminded to take note of the potential risks involved in the use of debit cards and adopt various measures to protect the safety of funds of the cardholders.

Moreover, CCB is also reminding its customers to raise their safety awareness during card use.  For example, they should not casually pass on their bank cards to strangers or allow their cards leave their line of sight.  For their PINs, they should not use their date of birth, telephone number, mobile phone number, street number or other easily decoded simple combination of numbers.  They should make appropriate concealment when entering their PINs and should know that it is not necessary to enter their PINs when going through the admission system of a self-service bank.  When operating on an ATM, they should check to make sure that no foreign object has been installed or clued on to the card-insertion slot, cash dispensing slot, key-pad or any other part of the machine.  On completion of an ATM transaction, they should not casually throw away their transaction record slips.  To avoid the sustaining of any loss of money through malicious frauds, they should not agree easily to the requests of other people for fund transfers.  They should also check their account statements periodically and report any discrepancy to CCB immediately.  If one’s card has been swallowed, missing or stolen; or if there is any abnormal changes in the account balance, one should immediately dial CCB’s customer service number 95533 or go to a CCB branch to report the loss of, claim back or enquire about the card.  To avoid being deceived or tricked, one should not give credence to false information or dubious phone calls and should never divulge one’s account number of PIN casually.
