On July 28, 2006, CCB spokesperson announced that CCB donated RMB4.5 million to the Red Cross Society of China to help people in the six southern Chinese provinces of Hunan, Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi, Zhejiang and Jiangxi which had suffered from floods caused by typhoon to overcome difficulties and rebuild their home. The donation will be delivered to the disaster-hit areas as soon as possible mainly for the reconstruction of local primary and middle schools and hospitals destroyed by the floods. The CCB branches in the six provinces and the local Red Cross Society agencies will jointly monitor the proper use of the donation. Meanwhile, the staffs of CCB branches in the six provinces also made donations. So far, the staffs of CCB Guangdong branch have donated RMB1.2 million to the local residents. Currently staff donation is still going on.
Since July 14, 2006, influenced by the No.4 Typhoon Bilis a number of southern Chinese provinces have suffered the most serious flood disaster in recent years. The floods destroyed many residential buildings, schools and hospitals, damaged the transport, power, telecommunication and water facilities and inundated large areas of farmland.
The more than 300,000 CCB staffs have been highly concerned about the fate of the people in the disaster-hit areas. From the board of directors, board of supervisors and the senior management to the grassroots employees, all of them pay a close eye to the situation development and the disaster relief efforts. In addition to providing the local businesses and people with timely and quality financial services, they are also delivering assistance to them.
Since the shareholding reform and successful listing in Hong Kong, CCB has witnessed rapid and healthy business growth and achieved sound performance, which should be attributed to the support of the public, customers and all sectors of the society. Always believing that “It is impossible for businesses to grow without the support of the society, so businesses should create value for the society and contribute to the building of a harmonious society”, CCB gives top priority to supporting the public welfare, protecting the interest of the public and promoting social progress. As early as in 1996 the 300,000 plus staffs of the bank established the China Construction Bank Care Foundation with their own donation. Over 10 years the foundation has donated RMB34.25 million, assisting more than 14,600 poor university students and building 24 CCB Hope primary schools in 14 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. In 2005, the bank donated RMB3 million to the Red Cross Society of China to set up the China Construction Bank Red Cross Youth Development Fund, supporting the progress of youth work of the Red Cross Society.
Over the years, CCB has played a positive role in terms of disaster relief, poverty alleviation and supporting public welfare, which is highly recognized by the society. While deepening reform and accelerating development, CCB will, as always, repay the society and contribute to promoting social progress and the building of a harmonious society.
