China Construction Bank and Bank of America Jointly Donate to the 2007 Shanghai Special Olympics World Summer Games

On October 17, the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games Executive Committee announced in Shanghai that China Construction Bank (CCB) and Bank of America will jointly sponsor the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games scheduled for October 2 to 11 in Shanghai. Zhou Taitong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, Bruce Pasternack, Special Olympics President and CEO, Xie Duyang, CCB Board of Supervisors Chairman and Gregory Curl, Corporate Strategy and Development President of Bank of America were present at today’s press conference.

 

As a major international sport event, the Special Olympics World Summer Games organizes more than 200 sports trainings and athletic competitions for 2.25 million of children and adults with intellectual disabilities in more than 150 countries and regions and draws over 50 million of supporters. The 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games marks the first time the World Summer Games will be held in China, Asia. Special Olympics athletes will compete in 23 different Olympic-type sports. In addition to some 7,000 athletes, the event expects to draw thousands of volunteers, referees and spectators from all over the world.

 

This first joint partnership of a major event between CCB and Bank of America embodies the two companies' goals for social responsibility and sport and community development.

The Special Olympics World Summer Games to be held in Shanghai will help draw attention to those people and their families and further promote the event around the world.
